Lock at Mijnden equipped with the first fish-friendly axialpump
The lock near the village of Mijnden in the Province of Utrecht provides a passage between the river Vecht and Loosdrecht Lake to recreational navigation. To prevent inlet of phosphorus-rich water from the river Vecht to the ecologically restored lake the lock chamber is filled with water from the lake prior to every locking cycle. The Amstel, Gooi en Vecht regional waterboard has ordered a fish-friendly screwpump to replace the current pump of the lock. The lock at Mijnden will be the first location where a fish-friendly axial pump is installed. The pump will have a capacity of 4.800 m3/h.
